There’s no question about it- Summer is finally here! From gardening in the yard, to firing up the barbecue, to soaking up the Summer sun, the season is in full swing. I generally recommend that homeowners change their home decor to reflect the time of year and refresh the space, particularly if you’re intent on selling your home.
Here are a few ways to welcome Summer into your for-sale home:
Curb Appeal
If you have a front yard, adding a fresh coat of paint to make your door stand out will go a long way. Newly-planted flowers with contrasting colors will create a good deal of personality, and a decorative wreath or welcome mat will help invite would-be buyers into their future home.
Create Entertaining Space
Assuming your yard is large enough, dressing up each section with a different function (whether it’s Summer barbecues, dining under the stars, or otherwise) will help potential buyers to envision themselves spending time outdoors, particularly in the Summer. Adding in pops of color in flowers, table linens, or even a piece of artwork will help to soften the look of the space as well.
Stay on Top of Landscaping
Keeping your lawn and flowers watered daily will help sustain their green, healthy look, and a well-kept landscape tips off buyers and guests that the entire property is well maintained.
Prep the Deck or Patio
Assuming you have a deck or patio, fixing any minor repairs that are needed (like cracks in the concrete or re-staining the deck) and dressing up the area with anything from seating to potted flowers will help enhance the area’s potential as a space for entertaining.
Clean Up!
Outdoor spaces should be cleaned at least once a year with a power washer to remove any dirt or deep stains on the home’s exterior, and it’s imperative that clutter and garbage be removed from the flowerbeds, lawn, and any entertaining areas. Bugs and animals can also be an issue outdoors, so use the proper treatment to deter them.
Lighten Up the Walls
Dark colors can make a room feel dark and cozy, but they can also weigh down the space. Consider painting any dark walls of yours a neutral color to refresh the area and create a light, bright space.
