There’s no time like today to master the staycation. To many in this era of COVID-19, it may be the only option.
With that said, a staycation isn’t always easy, especially if it’s your first time. Even if you love your home, it’s natural to want a change of scenery every now and then.
Right now, however, we have to make the best out of what we have, which means making the most out of staycations (which can be a blast). Here are some tips to get started:
Replicate your typical holiday activities
If you’re used to going on sporty holidays, make an itinerary of fun activities for you to practice in or around the home. If you like chilling in sunny spots by the pool, stretch out on your sofa or balcony and play sounds of water ripples on your phone. As much as possible, replicate what you love to do on holiday at home.
Have realistic expectations
Don’t expect your home to turn into a 5-star resort overnight. Don’t expect to cook a gourmet meal if it’s your first time cooking. See the staycation as a different type of adventure, and commit to making the most out of it.
Savor your home
A staycation is a real opportunity to stay at home and really enjoy it. This is your opportunity to simply sit and be. Water the grass that’s right under your nose and you will make it greener.
Go offline
Avoid social media. Put an out-of-office alert on your email. Switch off. Practice being present and mindful.
