It’s a tremendous relief to have successfully found a house you’d like to live in, in a neighborhood that fits your lifestyle, close to your work- there’s no question about it. Moving to a new area can be extremely liberating, and the change can be quite helpful on an emotional level.
The moving process itself, however, is often looked at as stressful, costly, and time-consuming. Here’s how to make moving day much easier:
Pack an overnight bag with all your essentials
Most likely, you’ll be too tired to unpack your things. Have all of your essentials within easy access: a change of clothes (especially if you have work the next day) and all your toiletries. Transport your laptop which could (but hopefully won’t) get stolen during a move.
Pack the items you need first in a clear plastic bin
Include things like a box cutter, paper towels, trash bags, eating utensils, and cookware. You can see inside of the clear bin and it separates itself from the multitude of cardboard boxes.
Wrap your breakables in clothing to save on bubble wrap
Kill two birds with one stone! You can pack your kitchenware and decorative items along with your clothes, while saving money at the same time.
Label your boxes with what room they belong in
That way you can unpack by room which makes it seem much more manageable. Make sure to label the sides of the boxes, not the tops so you can see them when they are stacked on top of each other.
Cover the openings of all your toiletries with plastic wrap then put the tops on
This keeps them from breaking and prevents your belongings from spilling all over the place. Place plates vertically, like records, so they are less likely to break.
Cut down on boxes by making all of your suitcases, baskets, hampers and laundry bins work for you
Pack them with your personal affects to save the space. Used the wheeled suitcases for heavy items, like books, so they are easier to carry.
