How to Deal with a Difficult Seller

When it comes to finding a house, there’s enough anxiety involved. When you find your perfect home, you just want to go for it! That’s why it can be so frustrating when sellers go out of their way to make the process as difficult as possible. However, there are some steps you can take to try to get back on their good side.

Price

Sellers can get irritated when there are multiple offers and counteroffers going back and forth, especially if the offers are far below asking price. Instead, offer the seller the highest that you can. This way, the seller will know you’re serious and if the offer isn’t acceptable to the seller, you’ll know you pulled out all the stops.

Looking on

Sometimes, it’s important to know when it’s time to call it quits and begin looking elsewhere. If you remain stuck on a property that a seller will never agree to let you have, you might accidentally neglect other properties that are right for you.

Lessons learned

If you loved a property but your offer wasn’t accepted, it’s important to figure out why. Whether this means you made a mistake in the offer or you just stayed focused on the property for too long, takes these lessons with you when looking at the next home.

Don’t focus on the seller

It’s tempting to want to figure out why a seller isn’t invested in your offer, and there could be so much more going on behind the scenes. It may not be you at all, but that the seller isn’t emotionally ready to leave their home. Simply accept that your offer won’t be successful and invest your time and energy into other homes.
