Water
Ensure that your sump pump is checked a few times per year. This will make sure your basement stays dry, even when it rains heavily. It’s also important that your water pressure never gets too high, as this can be damaging to pipes and other home components.
Cleaning
There are two often overlooked items that need to be cleaned: weep holes and refrigerator coils. Window and door frames are sometimes equipped with weep holes to drain rainwater, but when they’re clogged, water can seep into your home. It’s necessary to keep refrigerator coils clean in order to reduce stress on other mechanisms and ensure the longest possible longevity.
Water Heater Maintenance
It’s greatly beneficial to completely drain your water heater throughout the year. This keeps sediment from collecting and damaging the hot water heater.
Garage Upkeep
Use lubricant on the garage springs to keep them from breaking prematurely. It’s also crucial to make sure the door balance is in tact.
Critters
Check for critters and their nests. Mice, especially, look for warm places to cozy up during the winter. Not only do you not want to have them around, but you don’t want them to damage any of your appliances.
