5 steps to building a Google Plus real estate following

Any real estate agent looking to be successful needs to take advantage of digital communications- it’s that simple. There are myriad platforms that can be very helpful to an agent in their ability to get homes sold, and one that often appears at the top of the list is Google +. There are millions of Google + users logging on every day, so as long as you’re being social (and smart about it), there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t develop a flow of clients from the platform. Here are some tips that’ll help:

Seek out the influencers

One of the best ways you can find your way on Google + is to garner the attention of Google + pros. Simply add them to your circle, share the content of said influencers, give whatever you’re sharing rave reviews, and mention them in the post. This will maximize your chances of having them follow you and then, in return, result in them sharing your content.

Content is king

Sure, it’s clique, but the maxim still applies- there’s no substitute for providing quality content to your viewers. Make sure that you’re sharing a blog post at least once per week, and when you do so, provide a compelling caption to draw people in towards the blog post. There are also small changes you can make to your post’s formatting to draw people in, such as using the hashtag ‘#realestate’ or bolding/italicizing keywords in your post.

Don’t post your listings

While it may be tempting to share your listings with your network, you’re not likely to draw people in if the majority of your content is lacking originality or passion. Whether you’re providing your network with actionable advice, teachable moments, or laughter, your Google + account should work in tandem with your website and other social networks, not as an extension of them. If people are actively looking for your listings, they’ll go to your site- a good way to get them there is to share posts from your blog.

Be social

It may seem like common sense, but it continues to shock me how many real estate agents use social networks in a non-social way. If you want to make the most of your Google + account, you need to be interacting with your followers. Here are the three words that need to be at the top of your mind if you want to win at Google +: engagement, sharing, and reciprocation.

Offer variety

There are a number of groups that your Google + audience is likely to be made up of. This could be buyers, sellers, agents, and so on. Consider sharing SEO secrets with agents, so they’re better able to draw people into their site, as well as home decorating and DIY-project tips for buyers. Offering a range of services and ideas will help establish you as a go-to resource for all things home-related, and this type of thought leadership can go a long way towards building a following that leads to more clients.
